Karate (martial arts in general) training is one of the most well-rounded and beneficial exercise systems in the world today. Because karate training involves the use of hundreds of techniques it enables the practitioner to have a complete workout that makes use of the whole body increasing its ability to move with speed and power as well as improving one's posture and balance. At the same time the mental workings and concentration required to comprehend and apply the movements in a sensible way stimulates and excites the mind. By understanding the purpose behind each movement and testing these techniques in a pre-arranged practical situation the practitioner eventually gains the ability to become an effective combatant in a selfdefense situation. The rigorous activities of a karate workout will also strengthen muscles, improve coordination and flexibility, sharpens the reflex, build stamina and relief stress. The kumite sessions are excellent cardio workouts.

Karate training is meant for building the body and increase one's mental capacity. It is not meant for building up one's ego nor should it be learned mainly to win contests. These are very shallow goals and must be avoided. Rather the student of TMSK should become more humble and better mannered as he/she progresses along the path from white belt to black belt.
